Florida League of Cities recognizes Waters & Barnhorn as 2016 Home Rule Heroes
The Florida League of Cities has recognized Seminole Mayor Leslie Waters and Councilor Thom Barnhorn as 2016 Home Rule Heroes, a prestigious award recognizing their tireless efforts in advocating State Legislators and Congressional members on behalf of 411 Florida cities.
“Home Rule Heroes are the embodiment of local advocacy at its finest,” said Florida League of Cities President Matt Surrency. “These dedicated municipal officials take time out of their busy schedules to build business relationships with their legislators.”
“It is all about keeping communications open with legislators, and how their votes in Tallahassee and/or D.C. impact our city budget and our quality of life,” reflected Mayor Waters.
Both Waters and Barnhorn will receive the actual Home Rule Heroes Award at the next Suncoast League of Cities annual meeting in May.
“When speaking with legislators, it is always my intent to be informative and specific as to legislation that is beneficial to Seminole, not legislation that would be detrimental,” said Councilor Barnhorn.
